Explore The Silver Coast

1. Beach Holiday

The silver coast is home to some of the most amazing beaches in Portugal. From the child friendly beaches of Foz do Arelho and Sao Martinho Do Porto, to the big surf at Peniche and Nazare or the more secluded beaches of Salgado, Salir do Porto, there is nowhere else quite so special to soak up the gorgeous Silver coast sun.

2. History of the Region

There are so many obvious places to visit like Obidos with its medieval castle and walls, Santarem with its collection of gothic churches and Alcabaça and Batalha to explore the monastries. But also tucked away in one or two places are some roman ruins.

3. The Lifestyle

The Silver coast is the real Portugal. This region defines everything that is good and simple and the way of life here is simpler too, but the richness of the culture is still apparent.
The hot spots on the Silver coast like São Martinho do Porto, Nazare, Obidos and Foz de Arelho are extremely busy over the summer but still have a resident population which means that restaurants, bars and coffee shops continue to operate year round. Traditional food, traditional customs, traditional festivals and parties, traditional lifestyle is all alive and well on the Silver coast

4. Accessibility

The majority of the attractions on the Silver coast are just an hour away from Lisbon. From Lisbon it is easy to get there, by car along the A8 motorway, by train or by coach. The roads in Portugal, once you leave the cities, are a real pleasure to drive on because they are mainly so quiet. Just beware of the diverse driving standards you will face there.

5. Entertainment

You would not expect a peaceful place like the Silver coast to have a vibrant night life, but Portuguese people know how to celebrate and they will celebrate just about anything, from days of the saints, village birthdays, carnaval and even weekends. Foz do Arelho and Nazare boast two of Portugal’s most popular night clubs while there is always plenty of live music and concerts happening all over the Silver coast throughout the year. Add to that, 100′s of great pubs and restaurants and you have plenty of options when considering how to spend your Silver Coast nights.

6. Glorious Summers

In the summer, the Silver coast enjoys an average of 30 degrees while in the winter you can expect an average of around 15 degrees and a fair amount of rain fall which ensures the Silver coast stays as green and beautiful as it is. The one nice thing for me about the weather here is in the summer the evenings are slightly cooler compared to the Algarve and Lisbon, which does help for a good night’s rest. But the glorious weather ensures for happy days on the beach or by the pool and happy nights.

7. Affordable

While cost of living remains very high in Lisbon and down in the Algarve, the Silver coast is remarkably cheaper. This includes all aspects; Food- most people who live on the Silver coast eat out and whether you choose a local diner or a more up market restaurant you can expect it to be under 12 € per person for starters, a plate of food, a bottle of wine, coffee and dessert. The average price for a beer on the Silver coast is 1€. While property on the Silver Coast is also much cheaper.

8 The Community

The people of the Silver coast are wonderful, friendly, helpful and welcoming. It has been said before, they know how to have a good time. There is a real sense of community on the Silver Coast and once again this is due to the fact that the majority of the Silver Coast is a resident population. Foreigners are always welcome and are well looked after.

9. Easy to chill out

The Silver coast way of life is incredibly laid back, which can be very frustrating when you are trying to do business here. But when visiting the Silver coast it is a welcome break from the rat race back home. Recently voted as Europe’s top holiday destination, it is easy to understand why when you come here and enjoy the relaxed, care free lifestyle.

10. Natural Beauty

This item should probably be much higher in the list because the green and fertile  Silver coast is beautiful all year round, even when the leaves have fallen from the tree in the orchards and the grapevines are bare
